jennifer and logan. married. a fort saskatchewan wedding. by Cheryl Lukasewich

Jennifer and Logan got married back in June and it was an incredible day filled sheep, huge laughs and lots of love.  This couple was so ready to just get married that nothing phased them - nosebleeds, forgotten earrings, migraines....It means the world to me when I get to photograph people who just get it.  People who understand that a day doesn't have to be flawless to still be perfect.  These two are gems, for sure.

Take a look at some of my favorite images from this beautiful Fort Saskatchewan wedding!  I've still got openings for 2017 so shoot me an email if you're looking for someone to capture YOUR love!

2015. That's a wrap. Edmonton Wedding Photography. by Cheryl Lukasewich

2015 was a crazy year and not at all what I expected. I shot, I networked, I learned a lot. If I could give a budding photographer a few tidbits of advice it would be this: Keep shooting even when things look differently than you thought. Keep learning - nothing shoots you in the foot like thinking you know it all. Stop comparing yourself to others - to their bookings, their work, their "success". As long as you're open to growing for the rest of your life, the sky's the limit!! Branch out and shoot differently that you've ever shot - push yourself! Having a consistent style is important but don't let that stop you from learning new techniques in your craft. Network. Be kind. In this industry you will step into people's lives at the most significant times. Strive to know how much of a privilege that is. Thank you to each and every client. I love you guys. It is not lost on me how incredible it is that you trust me to step into the momentous occasions in your lives. So thanks for that trust. Thanks for investing not just in photographs but in me and this business that I love so, so much.

Thank you to the UNBELIEVABLE vendors I worked with this year. Not only have my eyes been opened to even MORE of the incredible talent this city has to offer but I've also made some incredible friends.

So here's a glimpse of just a few of my favorite images from 2015. I tried new things and pushed myself to grow. And here's to 2016: I hope this year brings new challenges, new growth, new friends, new skills, new clients and new community!

Engaged?  I'm booking now for 2016 and am friggin' excited about it.  Shoot me a message and let's chat about your wedding!

jessica and jerry. married. edmonton photography. by Cheryl Lukasewich

These two. THESE TWO!!! I'm not sure I've ever photographed a couple that were so laid back yet so energetic and up for anything! It was chilly but Jessica and Jerry were so excited to have us start the day with photos in the gorgeous place that Jessica runs most mornings. What a gem hidden in our city!! She was also excited to do a few photos in the playground near her house where she "plays" (aka does pull-ups like a boss) after her workouts. This couple laughs LARGE and, from all the people there to support them on their wedding day, love even larger <3 Thank you, Jessica and Jerry, for inviting me into this incredible day in your lives. It was such an honor. You two are the reason I love my job so very much <3

Have a look at a few of my favorites from Jessica and Jerry's wedding day and, if you're looking for someone to capture YOUR love, shoot me an email via my contact form or at cheryl@aeris-photography.com!

simone and preet. second shooting for retrospekt design. by Cheryl Lukasewich

I was presented with the amazing opportunity to assist Eileen from Retrospekt Designs in photographing a 3 day Indian wedding extravaganza and it was SO COOL!!!  One of my absolutely favorite things about photographing weddings is being given the chance - the PRIVILEGE - to participate in the celebratory traditions of other cultures.  Where else is it possible to actually be there to witness and participate in so many different activities that are so steeped in ritual and culture??  Over the years I've photographed so many different types of weddings (Catholic, Protestant, Sri-Lankan, Jewish, Chinese, Greek Orthodox, Ukrainian Orthodox, Native American, Sudanese, Islamic) and to add this stunning Indian wedding, dripping with vibrant colors and personality, is just the best thing ever.  I am so SO fortunate.  For realz. Soooo many thanks go out to Retrospekt Designs for allowing me to assist her during this wedding.  That lady is incredible.  Go check out her work.  Seriously.  Do it.

In the meantime check out my favorite images from this wedding.  It's probably my longest blog post yet but it's worth it!!!!

willow and andrew. married. a yellowhead brewery wedding. by Cheryl Lukasewich

I've heard it said in my industry that you shouldn't ever photograph a family member's wedding and may I politely interject that, in my experience, you should jump on said opportunity because it may be the most beautiful, intimate thing you've ever experienced. Willow is my second cousin and I was beyond honored when she and Andrew asked me to photograph their wedding. Guys - this wedding was a dream! One of my favorite things that a couple can do is forego all the nonsense that you're "supposed" to do at your wedding and do WHATEVER YOU WANT! They told me their friends were just as crucial as their attendants - the love and support from the people who desired to stand by them on this day and the rest of days was invaluable. They had a first look, had some time for formal photos with their friends, then met with a small group of close family and friends to sign their marriage documents. Andrew's father, a pastor in Sherwood Park, married them. They had their ceremony at the Yellowhead Brewery with a wider group of loved ones AFTER they had already been legally wed. They loved to laugh and obviously loved to love. Willow made her own bouquets and boutonnieres using flowers exactly suited to her taste. The girls didn't match but wore the most beautiful outfits with intricate textures and details. Their words to each other were intricate, poetic and kick-you-in-the-gut heartfelt. You could feel this one, guys. It was palpable. And I loved it oh so much.

Have a look at more of the weddings I've done for my family here (Lisa and Brad) and here (Ken and Angela). Then message me to see if I might be the right fit for your wedding (even if you're not family ;)) - cheryl@aeris-photography.com :)

nathanael and melissa. married. a devonian gardens wedding. by Cheryl Lukasewich

I've known Nathanael for just over 10 years - we met through my brother-in-law and became friends. In recent years, he's been the tech wizard who's helped with my websites, invested his time and energy solving some of my electronic woes while I stress-cry in a corner and is generally just a calming online presence when I have no idea what I'm doing in computer-land (who am I kidding...actually it's been ever since I met him ;) ). We hadn't seen each other in person in quite some time when I got a text telling me that Nathanael had met someone and had proposed!! Melissa lived out of town in Athabasca and it never quite worked for us to all get together prior to their wedding so I was really curious and excited to meet her on their wedding day. The woman is lovely. As soon as I met her it made sense why they had clicked and why Nathanael had chosen her to spend his life with. She is beautiful and radiant. Good snag, Sir! They got married at the Meadowlands Baptist Church in South Edmonton and then we headed out to the Devonian Gardens for a few hours a photos and had a great time.

Congrats, Nathanael and Melissa! I am honored to have been there at your wedding both as a friend as your photographer. I hope you treasure this day as the beginning of a lifetime together <3

katie and james. married. a devonian botanic gardens wedding. by Cheryl Lukasewich

Katie and James got married a few weeks ago and it was amazing.  Katie was stunning, James was handsome and you could feel the love.  These two are so kind and care so deeply for one another - it was palpable!  They also incorporated a few intimate details into their day - Katie wore the same hat her mother wore on her wedding day PLUS they had photos in the Zoltai garden (a specific area within the Devonian Gardens) which was specifically commemorated to Katie's grandfather (and is named after him)! What a gorgeous day.  Thank you so much, Katie and James, for inviting me to be a part of such a special day.  Have a peek at some of my favorites from our time together.

tut and tadelech. married. edmonton photography. by Cheryl Lukasewich

Photographing weddings has opened the doors for me to experience different cultures in such an incredibly eye-opening and special way. I had the privilege of photographing Tut and Tadelech's Sudanese wedding a few weeks ago and I am SO grateful for the opportunity to witness how their culture celebrates! From meeting a TON of people to eating dinner only with my hands to hearing the beautiful hoots and hollers of loving guests during a unique "money" dance - I love these opportunities! Thanks, Tut and Tadelech!

Since you're here you should check out even more of my wedding work! Shoot me an email if you're looking for someone to capture your wedding!

edmonton wedding photography. styled winter bridals with colleen and perry. part two. by Cheryl Lukasewich

Last week I posted the first of 3 bundled-up styled winter bridal looks with Colleen and Perry, an incredible couple who dressed back up in their bridal wear for a chilly winter shoot. Part one featured a cranberry cardigan that popped so beautifully against the snow, along with a grey scarf, mittens and a cozy camping blanket (LOVE!! - Check out the post here!). Scroll down to see the last two looks: A turquoise cardigan with a dried lavender bouquet and, my favorite, a chunky knit mustard yellow infinity scarf! A great thing about any of these looks is that your groom can simply pop on a dark peacoat and look dapper with any of these styles!

Love. It. All.

edmonton wedding photography. styled winter bridals with colleen and perry. part one. by Cheryl Lukasewich

If you know me you know that I am IN LOVE with photographing weddings. Love, romance, glances and squeezes - memories being made. I love it so much. Winters are often a bit of a slower season for photographers which can leave me ITCHING to shoot anything bridal. So, when Colleen and Perry got back into their bridal attire for an awesome Rock The Dress/Styled bridal session with me and I could not have been happier. Winter weddings present such a cool opportunity to style your dress in unique ways - there is NO reason to suffer through outdoor shots absolutely frozen! I suggested that Colleen bring along a few cozy options and she rocked them all. Check out the first of 3 bundled-up looks I captured with this beautiful couple below! 2015-03-11_0001.jpg 2015-03-11_0002.jpg 2015-03-11_0003.jpg 2015-03-11_0004.jpg 2015-03-11_0005.jpg 2015-03-11_0006.jpg 2015-03-11_0007.jpg 2015-03-11_0008.jpg 2015-03-11_0009.jpg 2015-03-11_0010.jpg 2015-03-11_0011.jpg 2015-03-11_0012.jpg 2015-03-11_0013.jpg

General tips for dressing for a winter wedding:

1. Leggings, leggings, leggings. 2. Bring warm, cozy boots. 3. Consider ways to keep your top half warm - Colored cardigans, fitted leather jackets, uber-warm infinity scarves, cute mittens.... So many winter brides style their dresses with a white shawl or petticoat but I highly recommend picking a color that will pop against the snow. 4. Accessorize! Some of the splendor of your dress may get covered up when you add on the warmth so consider adding jewelry that really stands out! Chunky bracelets or bangles, or a statement necklace or earrings can really elevate your images to amazing heights!

Stay tuned for parts two and three of Colleen and Perry's session but check out some other ways to style your winter wedding here!

christine and jeff. in love. edmonton photographers. by Cheryl Lukasewich

I'm always itching to shoot more weddings as winter drags on here in Edmonton so I was so happy that Christine, an old friend from high school, and her husband Jeff said they'd get dressed up for me so I could photograph them. Christine's family owns and runs Still Meadows Ranch east of the city which gave me the awesome chance to photograph Christine with her horses. Plus, it was snowing buckets and FREEZING outside so the arena gave us a bit of respite when our bodies turned to ice. I also received a new light from my husband for Christmas (Promaster Vari-Temp Camera/Camcorder LED light) and have been dying to play around with it! Although I'm used to using flashes on and off-camera at my weddings, I definitely crave natural light and will always tend to use it if it's available. This shoot gave me the chance to force myself out of my comfort zone, depend only on artificial light indoors, and push me into new areas of learning and growth!

Kudos to Christine and Jeff for letting me play, freezing their butts off, and looking at me when I asked them to in spite of ice flying in their eyes <3

Check out more of my actual wedding work here and shoot me a message if you're looking for someone to capture YOUR wedding!

I was THRILLED to be able to second shoot for my awesome photografriend, Sarah from Starseed Photography, when she asked me to join her for a wedding in the Dominican Republic! What an incredible opportunity!!! Bryanna, Kory and all of their friends and family were so warm and welcoming during the week we spent in Punta Cana and the weather was unbelievable (albeit INSANELY hot on the actual wedding day...this group was a bunch of troopers!). I can't say it enough: I love my job.

Check out some of my favorite shots from the day and be sure to head on over to Starseed Photography to check out her awesomeness as well <3

a warm romance. a styled bridal session by a team of rockstars. edmonton wedding photography. by Cheryl Lukasewich

One of my favorite things about this business is being able to meet and network with incredible vendors - Other small business owners that work their butts off with creativity and passion to bring stunning visions to life. My friend Erin from Erin Walker Photography and I had talked about doing a styled shoot together for a while and, once we combined forces with Christina from Sweet Bliss Weddings, we knew it would be incredible. Christina introduced us to some other creative geniuses and I couldn't be happier to have met and worked with this stunning group. Have a look at some of my favorite shots from our time together and check out these incredible vendors!  Here's to more collaborations in the future!!
